My Visit to Camp Hope

I just came back from a visit to Camp Hope and all I can say is WOW. I am a Veteran that served 26 years ago. I can't even begin to tell you about my experience at Camp Hope, but I will try. Let's start with the people. Jerry Wells, a truly amazing man that words cannot express just how amazing he is. Marcia, his wonderful wife, special lady. Both of them I will cherish as friends for the rest of my life. Thank you to both of you for making my visit there even more memorable than it would have been without meeting the two of you. Eddie, what a guy, and the perfect spokesperson for Camp Hope. Center stage Eddie, it is where you belong when you talk about Camp Hope and Chris and the people that have been there to visit. The feeling as you enter Camp Hope is amazing, there is a calmness there, kind of like when I go home to my parents house. Safe, comfortable and welcoming. My husband Bruce spoke of Camp Hope and what he had experienced there. To us Veterans are a passion, and now so is Camp Hope. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay there. It will be a memory that I cherish for the rest of my life. I will be back. That I can promise you. Chris gave his life so we could be free, and then gave us his peace at Camp Hope.

Thank you,

Debra McElhaney

Camp Hope

For once the Post Dispatch got it right . . . inspiring news on the front page. I shared this article with everyone I knew.

The few employees in our office always buck up and give a gift to our office manager, Ellen. After she read the article, she said to another employee, "If you are thinking of giving me anything for Christmas, please just make a donation to Chris Neal Farm." We all contributed what we could and made a donation of $200.00.

What you are doing for these Heroes is wonderful. I only hope that others were as touched as we were and follow suit, donating what they can. It is the least we can do to say 'Thank You' for keeping us free.

Chris, I am so glad you had

Chris,
I am so glad you had a good time at Camp. I can't believe the difference in you from the first time we met for dinner. You have really come a long way and I know you will continue to step out of your comfort zone and help others like you, as we have seen you do. I am glad you and Phillip have become friends. That is the whole idea behind Camp Hope. This is just the beginning for you and I know you have alot to give. Thanks for taking the time to blog. Talk to you soon. We love you man.
My Best,
Marcia

This is one of the most amazing sites I have found so far. You guys show support in a way that others would be too afraid of to try. It is a wonderful thing you do for our Veterans.
I had a close friend from back home in Louisiana who grew up in the country and the outdoors. He eventually steered his path towards the Marine Corps as well. He was young, full of hope, life and Patriotism. He had already served 2 tours in Iraq with his Marine Reserve Unit out of Mississippi, but when the call came in for volunteers, he was the first one from his unit to raise his hand to aide his Brothers In Arms for a 3rd tour. In August of 2005, shortly after my unit had returned from Al Anbar Province, I got word that his LAV had been struck by an IED which killed him and 4 others in it. It was a sad day for the people of our little hometown and the Brothers he left behind in Iraq.
I know David "Bear" Stewart died taking care of his Brothers and protecting what he loved. He would have LOVED this place. There is a BEAUTIFUL memorial back home in his honor. I just recently was able to go home and see the memorial. I saw it at night, while it was lit up. It is located at Poole's Bluff in Bogalusa, LA. He was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman. It is a very fitting place for that memorial. It brought tears to my eyes looking at it and remembering him.
I thank you guys, again, for what you are doing here. God Bless you and I pray that you are able to keep this going and reach all your goals...
